Why Micropigmentation Requires Two Sessions (and why to run if they tell you otherwise)

"My brows have disappeared, I want my money back"
The text message hit my phone at 8:00 AM. It was from Carmen, a client who had her brows done exactly ten days ago.
She sent me an angry photo. Sure enough, the beautiful, dark brows she had left the Studio with were gone. In their place was a super light, almost invisible shadow.
I calmly replied: "Carmen, breathe. You are in the ghost phase. I will see you in three weeks for your touch-up."
When Carmen returned at the 30-day mark, she apologized. Her brows had "bloomed" back to the surface of the skin in a beautiful tone, and at that second appointment, we simply perfected the shape and locked in the color so it would last for years.
If a clinic promises you perfect, permanent brows or lips in a single one-hour session, they are either lying to you or they are doing a traditional body tattoo on your face (which is an absolute disaster).
High-quality micropigmentation is always a two-step process. And here is the science to explain it.
The Battle in Your Immune System
When we implant pigment into your brows or lips, your body doesn't know it's makeup. Your body just detects that a "foreign object" has entered the skin, and it unleashes its army (macrophages) to attack it.
This process is called phagocytosis. Your immune system will try to "eat" and expel the pigment during the first few weeks. It is a natural and perfect healing response.
Because of this battle, two things happen:
- The Ghost Phase (Days 7 to 14): New skin grows over the pigment, making it look like the color has almost completely disappeared. (This is when Carmen sent me her panic message).
- Uneven Expulsion: It is biologically impossible for your skin to retain 100% of the pigment evenly in the first session. There will always be areas that retain more and areas that retain less, leaving tiny microscopic "gaps".
The Touch-Up: The Master Session
The touch-up appointment (done between 4 and 6 weeks later) is not to "fix a bad job". It is the fundamental step where the magic happens.
- Color Locking: By going over the same areas again, we saturate the color. Your immune system won't attack the pigment as aggressively the second time, allowing it to lock in long-term.
- Perfecting: We fill in any tiny gaps that didn't retain well during the first session.
- Temperature Adjustment: If the skin healed the pigment a bit cooler than desired, we use color theory to warm it up and leave the perfect tone.
At AC Studio, the second session is just as important as the first. It is where we go from "pretty brows" to "perfect facial architecture."
If you are in Barcelona or near Avenida Meridiana and want a professional result that understands and respects the biology of your skin, don't look for one-hour miracles.
